Celebrating 30 years of Stradbally Tidy Towns
2012 will be the 30th year in which Stradbally has entered the National Tidy Towns competition. We wish to acknowledge all those who have supported our efforts over the years. In particular we acknowledge retired and absent committee members who made huge contributions to the community of Stradbally.

Stradbally Tidy Towns started as a gardening club to clean up the village in 1980. In 1982, the Tidy Towns Committee entered the national Tidy Towns competition for the first time. Since then the community of Stradbally has been fully supportive of the Tidy Towns Committee.
In 1990, Stradbally won a bronze medal for heritage in the prestigious European “Entente Florale” competition. In the same year in the national Tidy Towns competition, Stradbally won first place in its population category and was subsequently only two points short of being overall national winner. Since then Stradbally has maintained a very high standard in the national competition and has won many regional and county awards and claimed several national awards for categories including: trees, thatched cottages, shop fronts and landscaping.
In 2002, Stradbally entered the “Entente Florale” for the second time and won a gold medal. The highlight of 2003 was the visit of President Mary McAleese with her husband Martin to formally present the committee with the gold medal. In 2006 the committee’s marks rose in the Tidy Towns competition to 288 showing a steady increase. Also in 2006 the committee won the Vodafone “Passion For the World Around Us” Award, which was designed to recognise the efforts of those in the community who strive to make a difference to the world around them and whose contribution helps to enrich all our lives. In Co. Waterford, Stradbally has won a silver medal and has been highly commended between 2000 and 2011.
