OLD NOTES
STRADBALLY FC NOTES 25/10/06

WEEKEND FIXTURES
Our under-11's were at home to Bohs B and it turned out to be a very entertaining game with six goals on offer with five coming from us.  Robert Finn scored a hatrick and Ger Crowley must claim goal of the season with a headed goal from a corner into the top corner of the goal.  Ryan Phillips was also on hand to net a goal.

LOTTO
The latest draw took place last Sunday evening in the Cove Bar.  The jackpot was at 5200 but was not claimed.  The numbers called were 2, 22, 23 and 24.  25 euro each to Elaine Lawlor, Christopher Lawlor, Aoife Kiely and Peggy Carey as promoter.  Next draw is on in two weeks in the Bally Inn.
Tickets are on sale in both public houses in Stradbally Village and now you can purchase your tickets at the Centra Shop in Stradbally.  Also the Bally Inn and O'Mahoney's of Durrow.  Please continue your support.  As we keep saying, we need your support.  Just look down the roadway into the development and you will see where your money is going.  Its for all.

SEAVIEW DRAW
Again the same must be said about the Seaview Draw, we need your support more than ever. Tickets are on sale at 30 each.  A change to this year's draw is that the four separate draws have been put into one Monster Draw on the one night, November the 11th.  Therefore, there will be over 100 prizes on the night valued at over 60000 euro.  As we said above, it is now more than ever that we need your support.  We also need people to sell tickets be it players, parents and others.

BILLBOARDS
We are at present selling advertising billboards to business and self employed people locally and beyond.  These range in price from 400 to 600 euro and will be displayed for five years.  We realise that this is a two way process as we understand that the days of sponsoring events and adverts without a return to the business are long gone.  Therefore we have designed a number of packages with initiatives to maximise the advertising return to the business.  If you wish to advertise to a select market, please contact us.  Heather, Mags and Mary have been doing trojan work over the past few weeks talking to self employed individuals and businesses.  If interested in taking out a board, please contact Garvan at 086-8351233.

FIELD DEVELOPMENT UPDATE
With the structure of the building in place, the next step is the pouring of the floor and the sheeting and roofing of  the building.  We are hoping to pour the floor in the coming fortnight but must sort out the underfloor piping etc at present.  After this we can start on the block work.  We'll get there.

Many thanks

STRADBALLY FC NOTES 13/09/06

LOTTO NOW AT 5000
The numbers called at the draw on Sunday evening were 3, 7, 15 and 16.  With no one claiming the jackpot despite a number of very close calls, the following won 25 each, Francis Sheehan, John Crotty, Keith Wall and Teresa Hurton as promoter.  The next draw is in two weeks in the Bally Inn and the jackpot is the grand total of 5000.  So buy your tickets now.  The last jackpot won in our lotto was 5300, a ticket sold in the Bally Inn.
Please support.

CRYSTAL CLEANED
Sunday last, we played away to Waterford Crystal in our first visit of the season to the city and our journey was not a wasted one as we came away with all three points that continues to give us a good start to the league.  The early exchanges were evenly matched with both teams playing some good football and at this stage there were no signs that we would eventually run our easy winners.  Midway through the half Franny Carroll on his first match back since his memorable winning strike in the cup final two seasons ago picked up where he left off with a well taken goal after great work by Tommy Connors and Paddy Doyle.
The second half saw Crystal having a go and Tommy in goal had to be quick off his line and again tipped over a good effort before we added a third when Shane struck home from close range.  The game was over as a contest at this stage but fair play to Crystal as they continued to give of their all and never gave up.  As for our charges, they stuck with the task and pushed on and added further goals through Stuart Fee with his first and second of the season and a delightful lob from Paddy Doyle and a brace from Tommy Connors.  On the day no goal for Stephen Lawlor.  A very good all round display by the lads and some fine passages of play.  A great boost for the team with Franny back.  A first class display by Shane Lannon, Alan Darcy never put a foot wrong in defence while Garvan put in a great performance at right full.

3rd DIVISION
We played away to Ballyduff last Saturday afternoon and were on the receiving end of a 4-0 defeat.  Ballyduff were three up within the half hour and put in another before the break but we settled for the second half and give a creditable display.  Short many players, it is a credit to those who played who gave 120% on the day.  We have a number of players who are injured at present and we had a number of others who were away registering for college.  These are genuine players who wish to play over the season but we have 22 registered players for this team.  Where are the rest?.  Every player is texted about matches and many players do not have the manners  to even return the text to say they are unable to attend.  The culling of this squad down to sixteen players will take place before the next game.  We just want sixteen genuine players no matter the ability, just out for a game of ball and a bit of fun.

UNDERAGE ROUNDUP
Mixed fortunes over the past week with two wins and two defeats but every  game is a victory once you are participating in sport no matter what the result.
The under-16's played in the Sfai cup at home to top Waterford City side, Ferrybank and lost by a number of goals.  Although we were missing a number of players, we gave of our all and once we keep the effort going we will get there.
Our under-13's were away to Portlaw and this gang turned in a very worth while performance.  For sheer effort alone, some of these players deserve a lot more than to be getting beaten in their games but keep it up gang.  We need a few more players, boys or girls to join us as we are starting a league within the club.  If you are over 13, that's ok as you can play in our own mini league but not on the club team.  Contact Mags on 087 7985030.
At under-11, we have two teams in the league and at the moment both squads are doing very well with full points from all games.  But apart from the results it is the sheer number of players we have involved at this age, with between 30 to 40 players turning up for training every week and this squad would be the first  term product of our academy which has operated for the past few years.

SEAVIEW DRAW
Yes it's that time of the year again with the launch of the Seaview Draw. Tickets are on sale from this week at 30 euro each.  A change to this year's draw is that the four separate draws have been put into one Monster Draw on the one night in November.  Therefore, there will be over 100 prizes on the night valued at over 60000 euro.  As we said above, it is now more than ever that we need your support.  We also need people to sell tickets be it players, parents and others.

SNIPPETS
Best wishes to a number of our players including Christopher Lawlor, Nicky Connors and Luke Casey who head away to Limerick and Dublin universities this week.  Its all study now and no fun.  Ah, we'll allow you a balance of both.
Congrats to Teddy and Teresa Hurton who celebrated their silver wedding anniversary in Whelans last weekend, a great night was had by all.

Many thanks

STRADBALLY AFC NOTES   july 2003

NEW STRADBALLY LOTTO
The first draw of our newly launched lotto took place last Sunday evening in Whelan's in Stradbally.  We had no jackpot winner.  The numbers being 14,15, 23, 24.  There was three consolation prizes of 20 each which went to Matt Cummins of Newtown, Dawn Fitzgerald of Ballyvooney and Tom Kehoe of Dungarvan.  Profits from this draw will be used solely for the new development of sporting and recreational facilities in Stradbally.  Profit from draw will only be used for Capital expenditure.  Phase one has been completed and the grant received from the Dept of Sport is now spent.  So now we move to phase two.  To get grant aid our community must come up with funds of our own.  That's where we all come in.  This lotto plus the Seaview Draw in Sept-Nov should see us completing phase two.  The completed facilities will include two grass pitches, an all weather pitch, dressing rooms etc.

The completed facilities will be suitable for many sports, schools and organisations and we are hoping to include all in our community in this facility.  This facility is for us all and we would encourage all in our community to support us in helping and fundraising the project over the coming 18 months.    As we are aware of the many draws which people are asked to contribute to, we are trying to put a major push into fundraising until the end of next year and then easing back once enough funds are in place.

Draw will be run on a fortnightly basis(at present) with draw on a Sunday evening.      Venue of Draw will rotate between different establishments in the area.        Tickets are priced at 2 each.      All tickets must be returned before 6.00pm on evening of draw.      Draw organised by Stradbally F.C. and Strad Bally Faha S.F.C.  Percentage of lotto to be put into a community fund which can be applied for by any community group at end of year
And how can you help?  1. By buying a lotto ticket hopefully on a continual basis.  2.  By selling lotto tickets to family, friends, work colleagues etc (you will receive children's sports vouchers on tickets sold over first two months)
If you are prepared to help, contact Garvan on 086-8351233.
As we are not perfect in organising lotto draws we would appreciate your views and ideas and criticisms of what we might be doing wrong or how we can improve the draw.

Many thanks

Garvan Cummins

STRADBALLY AFC NOTES

STRADBALLY LOTTO
The second draw of our newly launched lotto took place last Sunday evening in Curran's Bar in Stradbally.  We had no jackpot winner.  The numbers being 1,7, 9, 10.  There was three consolation prizes of 20 each which went to Paula Barry, Sheila Wall and Paddy Flynn.  Next draw takes place on Sunday the 3rd August in Durrow Pub.  Please support.  Jackpot will be 1200.  Tickets at 2 each or 5 for three entries.  Profits from this draw will be used solely for the new development of sporting and recreational facilities in Stradbally.  We are looking for more sellers especially from players and hopefully parents of underage players. It is you that will benefit.  Please contact Garvan at 086-8351233.

SINCERE SYMPATHY
Our club would like to extend its sincerest sympathies to the O'Brien family.  Michael O'Brien passed to his eternal reward last weekend.  Michael(Mickie) was an highly intelligent and articulate gentleman who was deeply involved in the community through his interests in farming, quizzes, school board of management, cards etc.  His family have been involved in our club for many years.  May he rest in peace.

SNIPPETS
Nice to see Waterford United moving back to second place in the Premier League after a great win over Cork City last Friday evening.  Next match is away to Shamrock Rovers on the 1st of August.
Commiserations to the Waterford hurlers last Saturday evening and especially to our own Michael Walsh but a great sporting occasion with a Waterford connection took place in Croke Park last Sunday with Laois winning the  Leinster Final after over fifty years.  Both main sponsors of the Laois team are Waterford companies QK Meats and Azzurri and what about Michael Lawlor who is related to a football dynasty from Ballyvoile.
Great to see so many from the area involved in the Samba Camp in Dungarvan.  Hopefully we will have a number of Ronaldo's come next month at training.

Many thanks

STRADBALLY F.C. NOTES

NEW SEASON
The new season has arrived if a little earlier than we expected.  First match was away to Bolton of Waterford and we took home a point from the team who were just pipped for the title last season.  The final result was 3-3 with Eamonn Clancy scoring form the penalty spot and Emmet Cummins getting goals number two and three.
Next match is home to Tycor at 6.30 today Wednesday against Tycor with Woodstown at home on Sunday at 11.00am.  Please make a habit of being at the pitch 30 minutes before kickoff for this season.

MEMBERSHIP
Membership is now due.  The price is 35 with students price at 20.  This will cover registration to the league and a basic insurance. Membership to Paddy or Emmet immediately.  As most players are covered with loss of wages from employment with their employers for a certain period of time in the event of injury there are others who are not.    To this effect those players are encouraged to pool together the premium for a comprehensive personal injury insurance.  The club will also make a contribution to this premium if instigated by those in need of it.  The policy we suggest is organised for the FAI by O'Driscoll O'Neill and will cover loss of earnings from week 4 to week 26 up to 450 per week.

TRAINING
Training took place last Thursday evening with a great turnout of nearly 20.  Training continues every Thursday at 7.30pm.  Anyone interested in playing this season please come along on Thursday.  All new players welcome.

AGM
Our AGM took place last Tuesday week with the Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer remaining as Eamonn Clancy, Alan Curran and Garvan Cummins respectively.  Seaview Draw Coordinators are Michael Kiely and Paddy Joe and Peggy Carey.  Membership officers are Emmet Cummins and Paddy Doyle.  Liam Connors is vice-Chairman.  Others responsibilities will be allocated at the next committee meeting.

STRADBALLY LOTTO
Next draw takes place this Sunday evening in Whelan's Bar in Stradbally at 10.00pm.  Please support.  Tickets are priced at 2 each or three for 5.  Jackpot is now at 1400.

SEAVIEW DRAW
This year's launch of the Seaview Draw has taken place and tickets are now out.  Tickets are priced at 25 each with the many prizes of cars, vouchers, cash etc.  Please contact draw coordinators, Michael Kiely, Paddy Joe and Peggy Carey.  Remember this year a massive effort has to be made as we need to generate massive funds to avail of Lotto Grants.  If we can all make a big effort this year, it will go a long way.  We need sellers especially from players and also parents of schoolboy players who may have different range of buyers.

UP TO DATE DEVELOPMENT

As you know at this stage we have acquired almost 5 acres of land from Waterford County Council and have finished phase one.  We now have three more stages to go which includes the recovering of topsoil, seeding, draining and construction of all-weather pitch with lighting, construction of dressing rooms.  To complete phases two, three and four over the coming 18 months we need 145,000.  Under the National Lottery Sports Grants we would be hoping to get 70%(101,000) but that leaves us with a fundraising target locally of 44000(30%).  Remember we can only get grant funds from the National Lottery if we come up with 30% locally.  To these means we have set up a local lotto and  also the annual Seaview Draw has been launched.  Tickets for the Lotto cost 2(5 for three) while the Seaview Draw tickets cost 25.

TRAVEL
We are making a big appeal this year for help in transport to matches from parents and family members.  We need to cut our expenses in view of the funds we need for the new development.  For example a bus will cost between 70 and 100.  For example for us to spend 100 will lose us 333 in development grants for the new field under the 70% grant aid from the National Lotto Sport Expenditure scheme.

MEMBERSHIP
Membership is set at 10 per player but will be reduced for more players from the one family.  Membership for two players from the one family will be 15 and for three players from the one family will cost 20.  This will cover registration to the league and also insurance.  Insurance is a basic insurance, copy of insurance can be got on request.  If insurance does not suffice parents requirements, you would be advised to take out additional insurance. We need Help!
We need help especially from parents who may be willing to lend a couple of hours now and again.  We need help with the younger kids on Saturday mornings.  As we have said before you do not need any experience or knowledge of the game.  We will show you the ropes.  Even an hour here or there would be ideal.

Many thanks

STRADBALLY F.C. NOTES

STRADBALLY 2 WOODSTOWN 0
The battle of these two seasiders proved to be a very entertaining match in Knockrour last Sunday afternoon. We dominated the game the whole way through and a win by a much higher margin would not have flattered us.
Franny Carroll opened the scoring when he glanced an instinctive header to the net before Denis Doyle rounded the keeper before making it goal number two.
Emmet Cummins sent the ball crashing off the crossbar twice in the second half but we could not add to our tally as a stubborn well organised Woodstown defence held steady.
Next match is away to Kilmacow on Wednesday the 3rd of September at 6.30pm followed by Carrick away on Sunday the 14th September at 2.15pm.

MEMBERSHIP
Membership is now almost collected thanks to Paddy and Emmet's work.  The price is 35 with students price at 20.  This will cover registration to the league and a basic insurance. Remaining money to be in by this weekend.

STRADBALLY UNDERAGE

Under-12
Ferrybank 3 Stradbally 1
A big shock was on the cards in Ferrybank last weekend from Mick Kett's and Paul Leonard's young side when they took on the much fancied home side.  Paul Finn opened the opened our account when he headed home in a crowded penalty box.  This was the only score from either side until thirteen minutes from the end Ferrybank broke through and equalised the game.  They added two more in the final five minutes.  This was disappointing for us but it must be said that every player put in a great effort and we look forward to the next game.

STRADBALLY UNDERAGE

Under-12
We played two matches in the past week and ended with a haul of four points from these games.  We hosted Carrick in Knockrour last week and goals from David Kiely and Damian Kiely ensured a 2-0 win.  Then it was away to Ballinroad and a Damian Kiely goal gave us a share of the spoils. 1-1.  De La Salle are our visitors to Stradbally this Thursday evening.

Under-15
We got a share of the spoils in a very entertaining match away to Waterford Crystal last Monday evening.  Crystal have won every match in the league so far so this result was all the more remarkable.  Every player gave their all and the lighting quick Nicholas Drohan scored two second half goals to cancel Crystal's lead each time.  Next match is home to Waterford Crytal on Saturday week.
Kilmacthomas, Ferrybank B, Carrick, Tramore B have now been added to our league.

FIXTURE
We play away to Abbeyside at 2.15 this Saturday the 4th of October.  Players to be in Abbeyside at 1.45pm.

STRADBALLY UNDERAGE

Under-13
Stradbally 3 De La Salle 3
We entertained last year's league winners at Knockrour last Thursday week and as the saying goes, it proved to be a game of two halves.  Facing a strong wind in the first half we felt that the elements would be a major disadvantage but this proved to be unfounded as we raced into a 3-0 lead within twenty minutes.  Damian Kiely was on the mark for all goals with a quick hat trick.
Complacency was the order of the day for the next half as we lined out with the wind at our backs.  But it was De La Salle who scored three goals including two penalties which we had sloppily given away.  A draw at the final whistle was a fair result for the great efforts of both teams.

Carrick 0 Stradbally 1
Despite dominating this encounter at the excellent new facilities of Carrick United we had to rely on a Damian Kiely goal with only a few minutes left on the clock.  It must be said it was not one of our better performances but at the end of the day you still only get three points whether you win 1-0 or 10-0.
Our winning strike came after a great lob from Patrick Queally into the path of the flying Damian Kiely who coolly slotted home to shoot us into second position in the table.

Fixtures
Sat  11th October Under-13 Away V Abbeyside 11.45am
Sat 25th October Under-13 Home V Ferrybank 11.45am

TRAINING

3RD DIVISION
Abbeyside 1 Stradbally 1
We played away to Abbeyside last Saturday afternoon and came away with a share of the spoils in this local derby.  Despite numerous chances from both sides a goal could not be produced in the first half and indeed we were very fortunate that an Abbeyside shot came crashing off our upright.
The second half was twenty minutes old when the home side shot into the lead with a rasping pile driver beyond Paddy Lawlor but with four minutes left on the clock Emmet Cummins was taken down in the box and Alan Curran duly dispatched to the net.  A fair result for both sides who fought to the final whistle.

FIXTURE
We play at home to Piltown this Sunday morning at 11.00am.  Players to at the pitch at 10.30am.

STRADBALLY UNDERAGE

SATURDAY MORNING CREW
Our Saturday morning crew under Paul Leonard and Dave Phillips had an away fixture against Ballinroad on Friday evening.  Despite it been the 3rd of October, who would have guessed that the conditions would be like the middle of July?.  A very entertaining encounter between both sides ensued to keep the large contingent of parents and supporters enthralled for nearly an hour.  The home side shot into a two goal lead but out charges were not going to be left behind with a superb strike from Damian Sheehan who volleyed to the net after a brilliant pass from Philip Curran.  Damian was on the score sheet soon later when he took a long range shot from 25 yards which evaded the Ballinroad keeper.  Ballinroad had a number of chances in the second half with them adding two more goals but with Finbar Power excellent between the posts he kept Ballinroad at bay for further goals with some great saves.
Paul and Dave know what Claudio Ranieri of Chelsea feels like as they had to keep 23 players happy trying to give everyone a game which means that every player on the pitch is taken off and replaced at least once in the game.  Many thanks to Ballinroad for this challenge and we may return the compliment in the next fortnight.  Also thanks to Paddy Lawlor and Christy Power for refereeing.

SEAVIEW DRAW
The first draw of this year's Seaview Draw took place last Saturday evening and we had four winners on the night.  With the first prize of a car going to Dunhill, the second prize was won by Tony and Maureen Reynolds of Ballyvoile.  Fourth prize went to Richie Harty with a further two prizes of 125 each going to John Flavin and Kathleen Hawton.  A big thank you to all who purchased tickets for this draw and those who sold tickets on our behalf.  Once again many thanks to Michael Kiely who coordinated the draw for us and our top sellers Paddy Joe and Peggy Carey.  It is also great to see people who are not connected directly with the club but who are prepared to sell tickets on our behalf such as Richard Gough who sold a considerable amount in Co Cork and also Eamonn Gough in Stafford Millar who between them had three winners on the night.  The next draw takes place on Saturday the 1st of November in Ryans Bar, Barracks Street, Waterford with the following two draws in Dungarvan and Annestown respectively.

STRADBALLY LOTTO
The next draw takes place this Sunday evening in Whelans Bar, Stradbally.  The jackpot will be 1800.  Please support.  Tickets are priced at 2 each or three for 5.
The last draw took place in the Bally Inn last Sunday week.  There was no jackpot winner and three prizes of 25 each were won by Maureen & Jackie Healy, Bonmahon, Joan Cashin, Stradbally and Tommy Veale, Carrick Road, Lemybrien.  The numbers called were 2, 9, 12, 23.

3RD DIVISION
Stradbally 5 Tramore Rangers 0
Our best performance of the season took place last Sunday morning in Knockrour when the home side rattled in five against the Tramore opposition on a beautiful autumn morning.  Stradbally's selection of youth and experience attacked from the kick off and dominated the first half with at least a dozen shots on target but no goal accrued.
The second half was only a minute old when we were finally rewarded with a goal of supreme excellence from Stuart Fee who buried the ball in the top corner.  This was just reward for a player who had spearheaded many attacks throughout the first half.  This was the signal for the opening of the flood gates with Liam O'Brien adding two in quick succession, one from the head and one on the deck from twenty yards.   Wayne Kiely added a fourth from close range and Stephen Lawlor ran onto an excellent through ball from keeper Eoin Cunningham to put the icing on the cake.

The last draw took place last Sunday evening in in Whelans Bar, Stradbally.  The jackpot was 1800.    There was no jackpot winner and three prizes of 25 each were won by Ailis Barry, Dunhill, John Wall, Graigue, Stradbally and Maria Connors, Carrigarea, Kilmac.  The numbers called were1, 11, 14, 24. Next draw in Curran's on the 16th of November.  Jackpot will be 1900.

3RD DIVISION
St Saviours 0 Stradbally 6
Stradbally travelled to the Ballybeg area of Waterford City last Sunday afternoon to take on local side St Saviours.  Our many attacks in the first half were finally rewarded with a goal from Franny Carroll.  The second half was a different story with Denis Doyle grabbing a superb hat-trick including a brilliantly headed goal, another spectacular goal from Stuart Fee, a 40 yard piledriver from Stephen Lawlor and another Wayne Kiely goal who also assisted in two other goals.

FIXTURE
We are away to Carrick this Sunday afternoon at 2.00pm.  Be in the village at 1.00pm.  Training every Thursday at 7.30pm.  All available players to attend.
Two of our players travelled to English premiership matches last weekend.  We know which one came back the happier and it was not the one who went to Old Trafford.

INJURY SCHEME
This is the final call for players if they wish to participate in the FAI sponsored O'Neill O'Driscoll injury scheme.  Leaflets were given to players two weeks ago in relation to this scheme.  Presently under the basic League insurance players will receive 55 per week for the ten weeks from week three to week twelve and  only for a  break of a bone.  Under the FAI scheme players are covered from week five to week twenty six for up to 450 for any injury in matches or training which incurs a loss of wages for  the player.  The option is there.

TRAINING
Training for all players this Saturday at 10.30am including the 7-10 year olds, under-13's and under-15's.

Under-13
Stradbally 1 Ferrybank 3
Top of the table side Ferrybank were our visitors last Saturday and unfortunately we were on the receiving end of a defeat despite matching them for most of the game.  Ferrybank went into a first half lead but Damian Kiely equalised in the second half.  The Waterford side added two more towards the end of the game.

Under-15
Carrick 3 Stradbally 2
This was a game which could have gone either way with both sides having plenty shots on target during the game.  Carrick shot into an early two goal lead with a strong wind to their backs.
Speedy striker Nicholas Drohan equalised with two excellent strikes in the second half.  The first was an indirect free from 25 yards out which was laid on by Christopher Lawlor and thundered to the top corner from Drohan.  Some minutes later, neat work from Thomas Kiely led to Drohan bringing the ball to the left before striking across the bows of the Carrick keeper for goal number two.
Carrick scored the winner from a free kick with just six minutes left on the clock.

FAI COACHING COURSE/REF COURSE

3RD DIVISION
Carrick 1 Stradbally 2
This was a very keenly and tightly contested game in Carrick last Sunday afternoon with the home side having much of the domination but it is who ever scores the most goals that collects the three points and if there was bonus points for spectacular goals we certainly would have got them.  After twenty five minutes right back Eamonn Clancy travelled up the pitch for a corner and when the ball broke free he powered a thunderous shot just under the cross bar from twenty five yards.  Ten minutes later a neat pass from Stuart Fee landed in the path of Wayne Kiely and from outside the right corner of the eighteen yard box sent a side footed screamer to the top corner.
Carrick pulled a goal back from the penalty box fifteen minutes into the second half.  With the home side pushing for a winner we held out for a good victory which leaves us third in the table just behind Bolton and Kilmacow.

STRADBALLY LOTTO
The latest draw took place in Curran's Bar, Stradbally last Sunday evening.  The numbers called were 3, 7, 17, 20.  We had no winner of the jackpot of 1900.  Three consolation prizes of 25 each went to Neil Condon, Matt Cummins and Helen Carey and James Organ.  The next draw takes place in Durrow Pub on Sunday the 23rd of November with the jackpot at 2000.  We need more sellers especially from players and hopefully parents of players.  We are trying to build something for everything with these funds.

CHRISTMAS DAY SWIM
We are now looking for suggestions for the recipient of funds from our upcoming Christmas Day Swim.  Suggestions to Eamonn on 051-293973.

3RD DIVISION - Stradbally 2 Portlaw 1
Stradbally collected all three points on offer in Knockrour last Sunday morning after a tough well contested game.  Wayne Kiely scored after five minutes after a great kick out from Paddy Lawlor.  Alan Curran doubled our lead twenty minutes later with a super free kick from 25 yards over the wall.  The visitors clawed a goal back after 15 minutes of the second half and Portlaw pushed for an equaliser in the final fifteen minutes with plenty of pressure until the introduction of Tadhg Crowley who changed the course of the game as the Portlaw defence stopped pushing forward.  Despite the absence of many players with the County Semi-Final, well done to all who made themselves available for this game.

FIXTURE
Sun 16th November Away V Seaview 11.00am (Please make sure we have all available players for this game as we will be short a lot of players with the county final next week).
Sat 22nd November Away V Tramore 2.00am

STRADBALLY UNDERAGE
Not one of our better weekends with the Under-13's going down by a goal to Ballinroad.  Shane Aherne equalised to make it 1-1 but the visitors scored in the second half to take all points.  Best of luck to our neighbours as they now are up against Ferrybank for League honours.  We had a number of players arriving nearly at kick-off.  Is over four years of arriving on time gone out the window?.  For home matches all players must be at the ground 30 minutes before the game.
Our under-15's went down heavily to Kilmac with Andy Doyle scoring our goal.

STRADBALLY LOTTO
The latest draw took place in Durrow Pub last Sunday evening.  The numbers called were 1, 3, 4, 22.  We had no winner of the jackpot of 2,000.  Three consolation prizes of 25 each went to Diarmuid Crowley, Ballydwane, Joan Barry, Garraheleish and Tomas O'Floinn, Stradbally.  The next draw takes place in the Bally Inn on Sunday the 7th of December with the jackpot at 2100.  We need more sellers especially from players and hopefully parents of players.  We are trying to build something for everything with these funds.

SEAVIEW DRAW
The latest draw took place in the Shandon Arms, Dungarvan last Saturday evening.  Billy Kyne won the top prize and we had five winners ourselves of 125 each.  These went to Mai O'Brien, Brenan, Mike Carroll, Knock, Clonea, Mary Crowley, Ballydwane, Eamon Beresford, Castle Garage, Dungarvan and Nora O'Connell, Hillside, Kilmac.  Congrats to all and the next draw takes place in Annestown on Saturday two weeks.

CHRISTMAS DAY SWIM
Share A Dream has been selected as the recipients of the funds of the upcoming Christmas Day swim.  Cards will be available in the coming week.

3RD DIVISION  Seaview 0 Stradbally 4
Seaview Celtic grounds in Annestown was the venue for this clash of the coastal neighbours.  Seaview's defence stood resolute in the first half and it was not until the final minute of this half that a Stuart Fee glancing header from a free kick broke the deadlock.
The extremely speedy Wayne Kiely bagged a hat trick in the second half with his speed causing all kind of problems for the home defence.  Seven goals in five games for Wayne, we will have to tie him to a new contract.

Stradbally 3 Tramore 2
Last Saturday with a home game to Tramore, it was important to collect all points against the seasiders from Tramore.  Stuart Fee once again opened the scoring and Paddy Kiely then put us 2-0.  The visitors responded with a goal of their own.  The second half generated a goal each, our goal coming from Tommy McGrath and Tramore's goal with ten minutes to go made the final minutes of the game nerve wracking before we collected all points on offer.  We have no game this coming weekend.

3 IN A ROW
Congratulations to the Stradbally Senior Football team who made it three championships in a row in Dungarvan last Sunday.  This is the result of great backroom team led by Sean Aherne and an extremely exceptional group of players.  Best of luck to the Junior Footballers who go into battle this Sunday to make it a double.

STRADBALLY UNDERAGE
Under-13 De La Salle 3 Stradbally 2
An away visit to De La Salle of Waterford last Saturday and unfortunately we were beaten by the minimum margin.  We had two players making their debuts and both played excellently, Finbarr Power in goals and Gavin Kiely in midfield.  De La Salle went into a two goal lead but Damian Kiely reduced the lead in the second half.  The home team went back into a two goal lead but again Kiely reduced the margin to the minimum again.  Despite putting the pressure on in the final minutes we could not get the equaliser.

Under-15 Ferrybank 2 Stradbally 1
This was a very entertaining game in Ferrybank last weekend but the ending had a very cruel twist.  Half time has not seen any goals and the home side shot into the lead early in the second half but when Nicholas Drohan equalised the game was all ours with numerous chances on goal.  In the final minute Nicholas Drohan's excellent run saw him round the keeper and from an extremely tight angle his shot crashed of the up right and with Ferrybank clearing their defence sent the ball down the field for them to score and seal a victory.  Well done to all who fought till the end.

Many thanks

STRADBALLY F.C. NOTES

Stradbally 2 Carrick 2
A win here would have set us up nicely to make a challenge for the league but we are still in the hunt after this draw against a strong well organised Carrick team.
Despite having numerous chances it was the visitors to score first but then soon later a great cross in from the left was met by the incoming Stephen Lawlor who steered the ball home.  One each at the break and the second half we dominated but not on the score board.  In actual fact Carrick, against the run of play, went back into the lead.  Our dominance was rewarded with a penalty soon later and Liam O'Brien was on hand to power the ball into the top of the net.  Despite numerous chances we could not add to this score and the game ended all square.  Despite the draw it was a good performance.

STRADBALLY LOTTO
The latest draw took place in the Bally Inn last Sunday evening.  The numbers called were 6, 17, 19 and 23.  There was no winner and the three consolation prizes of 25 each went to Bill Dunford, Carrigahilla, Don Foley, c/o L Connors, Lar Walsh, Carrigahilla.  The next draw will take place in Whelan's Bar, Stradbally on Sunday the 21st of December and for a Christmas Special we are upping the three 25 prizes to 100 each.  Therefore there will be three prizes of 100 on offer as well as a jackpot of 2200. NEW DEVELOPMENT UPDATE
A lot of people have inquired about our new development and where we are at, at the moment.  As you know, the area was excavated and earth moved and sculptured back in April of this year.  The top soil was stripped and stored at the end of the site.  It was decided and advised that we leave the site settle for a year.  So come maybe April of this year, weather permitting,  we will add drains and replace the top soil and seed it with the intention of playing on it by the start of the new season.  The grit all weather pitch we hope to have constructed in the later summer.

STRADBALLY AFC NOTES  31/01/2001

TOP OF TABLE CLASH
STRADBALLY 2 WOODSTOWN 1
This bruising top of the table clash was the reversal of the drawn away match of a fortnight ago.  On a pleasant afternoon in Knockrour the home side took all three points.  Our dominance was rewarded after twenty-five minutes when the ever-dangerous Paddy Doyle took the ball from forty yards and took on the advancing Woodstown keeper before slotting the ball under his body.  Despite having a number of chances before the interval it was Woodstown who levelled after sloppy defensive play allowed the visiting striker to score a fine goal off the inside to the upright.
We dominated long periods of the second half but despite having numerous chances, especially a number of one-on-one situations with the keeper, we could not sneak ahead and indeed it was Woodstown who stormed two fine strikes off our uprights.  But we weathered the storm, and with fifteen minutes remaining on the clock a mix up in the home defence allowed that lightening fast slick striker Michael Kiely to dart in and smash the ball to the net before the visitors had time to think. Paddy Doyle and Emmet Cummins had further chances on goal but could not finish unlike Mr. Kiely.  Man of the Match was Oliver  Costelloe who was a powerhouse in midfield kicking everyone and everything that came against him.
Team: P Lawlor, D Power, K Barnes, E Clancy, S Keane, E Cummins, O Costelloe, T Walsh, P Doyle, M Kiely, N Cusack, D Doyle.

UNDERAGE
UNDER-12
Stradbally 1 Johnville 2
We lost at home to city team Johnville last Saturday morning.  The visiting opened the scoring and went in at the interval leading 1  0.  Despite having a lot of chances we could not finish and we conceded a further goal with fifteen minutes left on the clock.  A superb cross from Christopher Lawlor in the final minutes was finished to the net by the head of Robert Aherne and this gave us a lifeline but too late.  Last year Robert specialised in long range spectacular goals but this year he is specialising in heading speculator crosses to the net.
Team: Christopher Casey, Luke Casey,  Christopher Lawlor, Nicky Connors, David Kett, Adrian Curran, Padraig Casey,  Johnny Sheehan, Andy Doyle,  Shane Aherne, Robert Aherne, Nicholas Drohan.

Under-14
St. Saviours 4 Stradbally 1
We went down heavily to St. Saviours last Saturday.  The home side caught us on the hop in the opening minutes and went into a two goal lead in the first ten minutes but the tide completely turned with Wayne Kiely playing a delightful ball cross field to the advancing full back Christopher Lawlor who delivered a cross for Kiely to skilfully finish.  We had an unbelievable amount of chances after this but bad luck was on our side.  The killer punch came on the stroke of half time when the home side scored against the run of play.  This is the worst time of any match to concede a goal.  The second half was all St. Saviours.  Rick Kiely and Philip Curran did a fine job on their top class striker O'Neill and Paul Flynn once again played his heart out in midfield.
Team: Eoin Connors, Christopher Lawlor, Alan Power, Kevin Lawlor, Philip Curran, Tommy Connors, Wayne Kiely, Paul Flynn, Rick Kiely, Robert Aherne, Pat Weldon, Luke Casey.

WE NEED FIVE
